On Sunday evening (11-17-24), 14 drivers would load into the session for yet another exciting P!ss Missile Punch-Out, hosted by Two Fat Guys Sim Racing Promotions. The event featured some nasty spills, awesome thrills and high speed action at iRacing’s Dirt version of USA International Speedway.
Heat race one would groan to life down the front stretch of the 3/4 mile dirt track as Trevor C. Williams would fire off from first and lead the field to turn one. Williams would see a comfortable lead in the early laps, but a combination of Williams sliding high in turn 3 on lap 3, and a charging Brent Beavers would lead to Beavers challenging Williams for the lead down the front stretch and into turn 1, where Williams would attempt to make the high side work. This proved futile as the car lost grip on the exit of turn 2 and would make way for Beavers, Hunsinger and J. Stewart in tow, letting Williams claim the 4th position for a short time before contact between Hunsinger and J. Stewart on the final lap would lead to Williams reclaiming 3rd for the finish.
Heat two would kick off in much the same way, with Jared Murphy lighting the flame in turn 4 and sending the field to turn one. By turn 1, brother James would tuck in behind Jared Murphy to control the entirety of the heat race in that order with Jared taking the win, and James finishing in second. With the field set for the A-Main, it was time to take a quick 5 minute break and send the broadcast to commercial, showcasing our partners Misfit Racing League and Extreme Wrap Studios.
The A-Main would kick off with Brent Beavers at the command, but it was a well timed bump on the initial start from James that would send Jared into the captains seat in turn one. Beavers would hold strong on the inside for the remainder of turn 1 and 2, but the outside momentum would be just enough for Jared to squeak into the lead by the end of turn 4. Further back in the field, a hornet’s nest would develop around AJ Hunsinger, consisting of Trevor C. Williams, James Murphy, and Jarrid Helms. The quartet would soar down the back stretch in a staggered 2×2 formation and would remain ferocious as J. Stewart stole P6 from James Murphy at the start of lap 4. The field would settle down, but by lap 7 James Murphy would start to work on the inside of Joshua Stewart to reclaim his position.
The field would start to get spaced out and work on one common goal- chasing after Jared Murphy. Murphy’s 6 car length lead would begin to falter around lap 12 at the hands of Jarrid Helms, but it was contact between Hunsinger and J. Stewart that would spark an incident where J. Stewart would return to traffic off the pace, leading to the number 71 of Alex Kubilus piling into the rear of J. Stewart’s 52 ride and bringing the action to a simmer.
The field would briefly return to action before a caution emerged on lap 15 after contact between Mitchell Maynard and Chad Stewart would send C. Stewart careening into the inside wall. Once more, the cautions would breed cautions as the following restart would see James Murphy take a spin off the bumper of the Jarrid Helms machine. This would cause a spectacular crash involving Jason Michaud, Trevor C. Williams, Brent Beavers and some other drivers. Brent Beavers though, would see the nastiest side of this wreck. As a result, he would become the only driver to take a tumble during the entire event. (Pictured below)
After the field re-attempted starting the race on lap 17, the event would see its’ 4th caution as Chad Stewart and Benjamin Wert would come into contact with each other in turn 1, resulting in Wert pointing the wrong direction. The field would then reset and see a short 3 lap stent of racing before yet another caution came, this time at the expense of Patrick Velez who experienced a nasty lick to the outside wall in turn 4. Green flag conditions would resume on lap 20 and it would be Trevor Williams in the runner-up spot putting all the pressure on Jared Murphy as his brother James battled for third with Hunsinger. Williams would again attempt the high side in turn 1 on lap 23, but like his heat race attempt would prove to be uneventful as Hunsinger, Murphy and J. Stewart would pass down the back stretch.
Lap 26 would see the 6th and final caution as Brent Beavers would find himself staring at the inside wall after an accordion effect developed during the tight racing conditions. The field would restart single file with Jared Murphy still on top, Hunsinger 2nd, James Murphy 3rd and a hungry J. Stewart looking to break onto the podium. J. Stewart would follow the battle for 2nd until the final lap where he clipped the inside berm, sending him a half lane high and scrubbing enough speed off to close the already small gap between his rear bumper and Trevor Williams’ front bumper. Williams was unable to brake in time and it would lead to J. Stewart dropping from 4th to 12th on the final lap.
Jared Murphy would become victorious over brother James in 2nd, and AJ Hunsinger bringing up the 3rd position. After a hard fought up and down race for Trevor C. Williams, he would finish fourth. From here, the results vary due to an un-cleared iRacing penalty, but Jarrid Helms should be credited with finishing 5th, Mitch Maynard 6th, Brent Beavers in 7th, Jason Michaud 8th, Alex Kubilus 9th, Chad Stewart 10th, Patrick Velez 11th, Joshua Stewart 12th, and Benjamin Wert in 13th. Randal Hickman did not start the A-Main and is credited with a DNS in the 14th position.
